Amśu is a synonym for Soma (as Louis Renou noted that Rigveda is present in nuce, 'nutshell' in the themes related to Soma). Georges Pinault pointed to the concordance between Vedic and Tocharian: amśu ~~ ancu, 'iron' (Tocharian). Ancient Historical linguistics and narratives: Rigveda, Mahabharata and other texts Annex 1 Ancu 'iron' (Tocharian), Assur and links with Vedic ~~ Mleccha (Meluhha) Annex 2 Jatugriha parva of Mahabharata (which attests Mleccha as a language) What language did the Sarasvati-Sindhu civilization people speak? To attempt an answer to this question, with all humility, I add a footnote that scholars of historical linguists accept (pace FBJ Kuiper, MB Emeneau, Colin Masica, Southworth) that a language union (linguistic area) existed, called Indian sprachbund. This is a tribute to Frits Staal, Nicholas Kazanas, Georges Pinault, BB Lal, Saroj Bala & Kulbhushan Misra for their insightful researches which necessitate a fresh start for Vedic and IE studies together with delineation of Mleccha (Meluhha) of Indian sprachbund as the Proto-Indo-Aryan language Sarasvati-Sindhu civilization people spoke and wrote. Focus: Tin-bronzes, cire perdue castings, metalwork.Time: 7th millennium BCE. Locus: Ancient Sarasvati-Sindhu River Basins.
